After 28 years, Jaipur suffers worst locust attack, agricultural lands ruined

People of Rajasthan are suffering yet another blow after lockdown, this time it is by the locust.

After destroying crops in Rajasthan’s Pakistan bordering areas, a large swarm of locusts has now reached the capital city of Jaipur. On Monday morning, several areas of Jaipur district including Vidyadhar Nagar, Murlipura were under locust attack.

This is the worst locust attack since 1993. The locust moves towards the wind and soon will enter the other states too.

Four teams of the central government and teams of state agricultural development are using chemical sprays with the help of tractors and fire-brigade vehicles to keep the locusts at bay.

The United Nations (UN) has warned that armies of locusts swarming across continents pose a “severe risk” to India’s agriculture this year.
