Ball Tampering incident: Bancroft suggests Australian bowlers knew about it

Cameron Bancroft, in his recent interview to The Guardian, has implied that the bowling attack of Australian cricket knew that he was tampering the ball during the the Test against South Africa that led to him being banned from the Australian team.

Bancroft was caught on camera while tampering the ball and Cricket Australia’s investigation found out that the captain Steve Smith and David Warner knew about it and was banned from the game immediately.

No other cricketer was found guilty or publicly admitted to the matter.

Bancroft, who has returned to cricket and is currently playing in County Championship for Durham, said that it was “self-explanatory” when asked twice about involvement of bowlers in the incident.

“Yeah, look, all I wanted to do was to be responsible and accountable for my own actions and part,” Bancroft told The Guardian.

“Yeah, obviously what I did benefits bowlers and the awareness around that, probably, is self-explanatory.

“I guess one thing I learnt through the journey and being responsible is that’s where the buck stops [with Bancroft himself].

“Had I had better awareness I would have made a much better decision,” he said.

His implications likely to reignite speculation about who knew.

The bowlers under the scanner are Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and Nathan Lyon. The remaining players in the squad are Tim Paine, Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh.
