In a thrilling CPL 2021 Final, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots defeated St Lucia Kings to lift the trophy for the first time.
Led by Dwayne Bravo, the Patriots were the favorites right from the start. They had won five matches in a row before losing the plot in the middle. They, somehow, managed to get back on track and the redemption happened when Evin Lewis found his form.
Lucia Kings had lost Faf du Plessis to injury but the team had managed to win their last few matches, thanks to the bowling department.
In the final, they opted to bat first. The team had lost Fletcher and Deyal early. However, Roston Chase and Rahkeem Cornwall fought back to bring the team into the game. Both players had scored 43 respectively.
In return, Chase removed Gayle early and Riaz got rid of Lewis as well. Da Silva and Rutherford had a good partnership in the middle but they couldn’t score runs at a quick pace, as the run rate kept increasing.
Drakes took up the responsibility to finish off the chase. He had Allen for his support. The latter made 20 runs.
With his brilliant 48* from 24, Drakes dragged the team over the finish line. The team needed seven from the last three deliveries. A couple followed by boundary and single took them past Kings’ total of 159.
