Cricket is everywhere, and we see stars making or breaking record every single day. It is just not easy to be a statistician, and I tell you, it takes a lot to be Shebas. He goes by the name ‘Shebas Tendulkar’ on Social media, and If you are on Social media, you certainly would have come across the various numbers, and there is a lot of chance that you would have come across his name. Nobody knows how he finds time to come up with jaw-dropping stats, something we might have never heard of. He is from Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu and has completed his Electronics and Communication from S.K.P Engineering College.
We got in touch with the ever-inspiring Shebas to know more about his life.
When did you fall in love with cricket?
My love for cricket started from the 2003 World Cup. I had no knowledge about the game at that time. All I remember is everyone used to talk about Sachin Tendulkar when something related to the game was discussed. Then I got to know everything about cricket while watching him on the field!
You are just too good when it comes to stats and numbers. When did that all begin?
Since childhood, I’m fond of numbers, as, like every other fan, I used to read Sports news first in the newspaper, my love for numbers started from there. When I joined Social Media, I came to know about a few cricket Websites. Then usually I used to spend my free time there by searching for something new. With time, it became my passion; I love doing that. Still, I’m just 10% comparing to other Professional Statisticians.
You spend hours working on stats, but there are a few sites that copy your work. How horrible is that?
I have experienced it a lot of times, but I can’t do anything. Now, I feel like, if my Stats reach to at least 50 members that’s enough for me.
You are a Sachin Tendulkar fan, tell us a unique record which Sachin holds, something most of us have no idea?
So many are there, I couldn’t think of one right now. This is something I came up with a few months ago.
Sachin is the only player to pick a Test wicket at both teenage and forties
One record you wish Sachin had?
I wish, he reached 16,000 Test runs. He needed just 163 runs to achieve that feat before playing his last Series. Unfortunately, He batted only twice and in 199th test got out by a wrong decision.
Apart from Sachin, who is your favourite international cricketer and why?
Among Current players, I loved Watching Kane Williamson and Rohit Sharma. Kane reminds me of Sachin’s Batting. He has a similar technique just like Master.
You are, of course, a MI fan too, how do you see the team’s progress this year?
This season is a special one. We started With 0-5 in the UAE and ended as the 1st team to reach the Playoffs. All Credits to our players, We really played like Defending Champions.
What makes MI successful than other franchise?
To win a trophy, a team needs to have a strong Indian core, During auctions, other teams mainly used to focus on Foreign players to make a strong team but MI had always kept it calm and focused on Indian players and the result now we have (Rohit, Suryakumar, Ishan, Hardik, Krunal, Bumrah, Chahar etc.,). Each of them is match-winners who have the ability to change the match at any time.
Facing the hatred on Social media for posting stats, how do you handle it?
Once Sachin Said, ‘People will throw stones at you, and you have to convert them into milestones’. Let them do what they can I’ll simply ignore.
