Union Home Minister Amit Shah has moved a bill in the Rajya Sabha to divide the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Article 370 that gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, has been removed by the Centre through a Presidential order, Union Home Minister informed the Parliament on Monday.
Ahead of the announcement, the government imposed Section 144 in several districts of the state.
Earlier, there was a week of chaos in the state with Government deploying 280 companies over security measures.
It was followed by the curtailment of Amarnath Yatra and advisory issued by the state administration asking the Amarnath yatra pilgrims and the tourists to curtail their stay in Kashmir and leave as soon as possible.
The threat turned out to be true with Pakistan’s notorious Border Action Team (BAT) which tried to infiltrate Kashmir and attack a forward post along the LoC in Keran, Gurez, Machil and Tangdhar. The army managed to kill five to seven intruders.
While the national leaders were forced for house arrest, the schools and other public places were closed.
Also, for security reasons, the mobile internet has been shut off from the state while the important officials have mobile operated via satellite.
