ISSF World Cup: Rahi Sarnobat wins gold; books Olympic berth

India’s Rahi Sarnobat wins the third Gold( Apurvi Chandela and Saurabh Chaudary) for India in the women’s 25m pistol at the season’s third International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Munich on Monday.

The Asian games champion won the Gold by shooting 37 (out of 50 shots) in the final and thereby securing a spot in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

She was the first Indian woman to qualify for the Olympics in 2012 when she made it to the London through Olympics quota. However, she had to miss out the 2016 Olympics due to injury. Now that she is back, it is exciting times for India.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Manu Bhaker who made it to the final and even had a good start out there had to miss out due to the weapon malfunction. the youngster was visibly upset with the result and the Rahi Sarnobat, in a heartwarming incident consoled the youngster. Had Manu Bhaker won the final or even a podium finish would have secured Manu Bhaker a place in the Tokyo Olympics. She still has tournaments to make it to the Olympics.

So far, Six Indians have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
