MY FAVORITE 17 OF YUVAN SHANKAR RAJA

Though I am a devotee of A R Rahman’s music, I am huge addict of Yuvan’s voice and his music. His voice is true magic which portrays every other emotions of humans. My favorite Yuvan Shankar Raja songs are jotted down in no particular order and please do listen to those songs if you have not yet.

1 Oru Naalil

undefined

This is from the cult Pudhupettai. Whenever I feel down, I go through these lyrics. Yuvan’s voice creates goose bumps when it reaches high notes and we miss you Na. Muthukumar Sir.

2. Kanmunne Ethanai Nilavu

undefined

This song is from Thulluvadho Ilamai. This was the time when Yuvan’s music was so fresh and new to people and
“Adi, 15 Ponathu, 16 Vanthathu,
Dhaavini Paarthen, Meesai Vanthathu,
Thadavi Paarthen, Parkal Irunthathu,
Unnaale…” ,
These lines are magical.

3. Pogathey

undefined

Pogathey from Deepavali is something which soothes our hearts whenever we listen and I hope every music lover have this in their playlist.

4 Iragai pole

undefined

Composition is totally new in this song from Naan Mahaan Alla. Also the middle portion of music in this song is like out of the world and visualisation is apt for that music.

5. Yedhedho enangal

undefined

This melody from Pattiyal featuring Barath and Pooja (I love her) is also my most favorite. And Yuvan’s voice is like the candy coating to this entire song.

6.Unakaga thane

undefined

This astounding song is from Katradhu Tamizh. I will be in tears whenever I hear this as this unique piece is miraculous in its own way. I don’t know why I cry, may be because I miss Na. Muthukumar’s lyrics in recent albums.

7. Oororam Puliyamaram

undefined

Yes! I totally love this song from Paruthiveeran more than “Ayayo” from the same album only because of the folk tone he handles throughout the song and it reaches a high point in the middle of this song and it will always be a number to play when we are happy.

8 Idhu Varai

undefined

This song is from GOA and Andrea Jeremiah made justice to this particular stitching of music and the aesthetic piano piece in the middle makes us to play this song in loop mode.

9. Oru kal oru Kannadi

undefined

This chart from Siva Manasula Sakthi is all time favorite of many music lovers like me. This is also a “Prodigy mix” of Na. Muthukumar and Yuvan Shankar Raaja who proved he is the owner of the genre “Melody” in his times.

8.Thaakuthey kan thaakuthey

undefined

This peppy number is from Baana Kaathadi and was penned by Vaali and it is handpicked favorite.

9. Kannadi nee Kanjadai naan

undefined

Though the entire “Mankatha” album is a hit, I drool over this love track because of SPB Charan’s voice and we will never get bored.

10. Aarariraro

undefined

I am not a big fan of songs which talks about MOM’s affection as it always make me cry. But this is really different. Nobody would have escaped from crying when they hear,
“Iraiva nee aanai idu,
Thaaye enthan magalai maara”.

11. Jalsa Panungada

undefined

This is also a party number from Chennai 28 which has a signature step in the song.

12 En kadhal solla

undefined

Loveliest composition from Paiya and love just oozes out whenever we hear this. This will always be in my playlist whenever I travel.

13. Devadhaiyai Kanden, Thottu thottu

undefined

Here comes the master piece from Kadhal Kondein which is like the anthem of many 80’s and 90’s kids. Every second of these two songs is perfect and there is no way we could compare with any other musician’s music. This entire album is paragon and perfect.

14. Venmegam penaaga

undefined

This melody from Yaaradi ne Mohini is also a travel song for me. In between piano notes makes it comforting.

15. Ninaithu Ninaithu Parthen

undefined

Both the female and male version of this song from 7g rainbow colony was a trendsetter during its times. Each and every human who could understand music and Tamizh will cry even if they don’t see this song video.

16. Vinodhane

undefined

I don’t know how many would have heard this song from Thennavan. Yes! Captain’s movie! Listen to this if you have not.

17. Makka Kalanguthapa

undefined

This folk-y song is from Dharmadurai and I heard it for the first time on my wedding reception and became my favorite from then.

These are my top favorites and we all know Yuvan Shankar Raja came back with a real bang in High on Love. Though those songs are not like his old compositions, they are setting the current trend.

Hope we get more of his songs in future.
Happy Birthday Yuvan!
