Dawood Ibrahim, one of India’s most wanted men, lives in Karachi, the Pakistani government said on Saturday.
The development comes years after Pakistan kept denying that it shelters the underworld don blamed for the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts along with other terrorists.
The admission by Pakistan came in a list of 88 banned terror groups that were disclosed as part of its efforts to get out of the tough financial sanctions for helping terrorists and their organisations– to escape Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) grey list.
Hafiz Saeed Ahmad of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Mohammad Masood Azhar of JeM and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi are on the list.
In a notification released by the Pakistan government, Dawood’s address has been listed as “White House, near Saudi Mosque, Clifton in Karachi”.
In the order detailing him, his various passport address revealed as well.
Under the section on Dawood’s various passports and their numbers, the order lists five passports issued in Pakistan.
“j) (Pakistan number C866537, issued on 12 August 1991, in Rawalpindi. (k) c267185- issued in july 1996 in karachi (I) H-122359 – issued in Rawalpindi in july 2001 (m) G-869537: issued in Rawalpindi. (n)KC,-285901,” listed the order.
According to the reports, the Government has seized the account and the properties of the terrorists in the country and they are banned from travelling abroad as well.
The FATF is an inter-governmental body to combat money laundering, terror financing, among other threats to the international financial system.
It had put Pakistan on its ‘grey list’ back in June 2018 and asked the nation to implement a plan of action by 2019-end. The deadline was extended due to the coronavirus pandemic and failure to comply would land Pakistan in the ‘black list’.
