Australia men’s team to follow women’s team’s lead, to wear Indigenous shirt for India T20Is

The Australian men’s team to follow the lead of women’s team and to wear Indigenous shirt for their upcoming Dettol T20 series against India.

Australia men’s team recently unveiled the new design in a collaboration between manufacturer ASICS and two Indigenous women, Aunty Fiona Clarke and Courtney Hagen.

The shirt will tell the history of Aboriginal players who toured England in 1868 as part of the first sporting team from Australia to play abroad.

A few months ago, the Australian women’s team wore an Indigenous shirt of their own in a match against England. Since then, they are vocal regarding the representation. The team also participated in barefoot circle both in England and New Zealand series to create awareness about the indigenous community. The same continued during the ongoing WBBL as well.

The team also addressed the issue of Black Lives Matter recently.

Australian pacer Starc unveiled kit and said that he is excited to wear it.

“The women’s team have worn a similar artwork to our one, the Test team have worn the logo on our collars a few times and the WBBL teams have all got it on their guernseys this year so it’s really exciting to have the chance as a men’s team to wear our first Indigenous jersey,” he said.
