England began the One-day series with a massive win over India at Bristol on Sunday. After a thrilling draw in the one-off Test, England bounced back to win the game with ease.
The hosts were right at the top from ball one, in fact, even before that as Knight called it right at the toss and opted to bowl first.
Both teams witnessed debutants, India had Shafali Verma making her ODI debut while Sophia Dunkley got hers finally. Verma, however, did not last long and made only 15. Mandhana followed her for 10 and India were in deep trouble immediately.
Raut and Raj added an important partnership but they couldn’t convert the dots to single and that came back to haunt India. Punam Raut made 32 from 61 while Mithali Raj had 72 from 108.
After Raut’s fall, Deepti Sharma added a few to the total after her dismissal, India never really recovered as they managed only 201 in their 50 overs.
Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets to her name while Brunt and Shrubsole had a couple to their name.
In return, England had no troubles at all. While Jhulan removed Lauren Winfield-Hill early, the team couldn’t do much as Tammy Beaumont held one end firm. She added a good partnership with Knight, but after Bisht got her out, Sciver came in and made sure to take on Indian bowling.
Sciver made 74* from 74 while Beaumont made 87* from 87 as they defeated India in what you call a complete mismatch.
